Just a short stroll over a stone bridge from the centre of Beddgelert, Tŷ Afon is ideally placed for exploring the best of Eryri | Snowdonia National Park. From quiet lakes and forest trails to mountain routes and coastal day trips, everything is within easy reach. The landscape around us is rich with Welsh history and legend, with slate-roofed cottages, winding roads and ever-changing views.
Most guests mix a local walk from the door with one or two day trips further afield. Everything on the map can be reached within around an hour.

National Park
Beddgelert
A peaceful riverside village with stone bridges, wooded paths and easy access to some of the area’s best walks. Ideal for a gentle wander straight from the front door.
Aberglaslyn Gorge
A dramatic stretch of river and woodland just beyond the village. One of the most scenic short walks in Eryri, with narrow paths and striking views along the Glaslyn.
Dinas Emrys
A short, steady climb to the remains of an ancient hillfort, steeped in Welsh legend. A rewarding walk with wide views over the valley.
Llyn Dinas
Just a few minutes from Tŷ Afon, this quiet lake is perfect for a short walk, a swim, or simply sitting by the water.
Moel Hebog
Beddgelert’s local mountain. A steeper, quieter alternative to Snowdon, offering a rewarding half-day walk and far-reaching views.

Yr Wyddfa
(Snowdon)

Llanberis
A practical base for Snowdon, with lakeside walks, cafés and outdoor shops. A good starting point for both hiking and more relaxed exploring. You can also take the mountain railway up Snowdon from here.
Bethesda
The gateway to the Ogwen Valley and home to Zip World. A mix of mountain landscape, slate heritage and high-adrenaline experiences.
Towns and Place to Stop
Caernarfon
A historic town centred around its medieval castle and harbour. A good place for exploring Welsh history, wandering the old streets and stopping for food.
Menai Bridge
Set along the Menai Strait, with independent shops, cafés and views of the suspension bridge. A popular stop when heading towards Anglesey.
Y Felinheli
A quiet marina village between Caernarfon and Bangor. Known for waterside walks, sailing and a more relaxed pace.
Porthmadog
The nearest hub for shops, bakeries and supplies, as well as access to two heritage railways.
Towns and Place to Stop
Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway
A heritage steam railway running through mountains, forests and old slate quarries. A slower way to take in the landscape.
Portmeirion
A distinctive Italian-style village set on a private peninsula, with colourful buildings, gardens and estuary views. Unlike anywhere else in North Wales. Find out more here.
